The Marion Center Area High School Marching Band or known locally as "The Mean Green Marching Machine" is comprised of approximately 70 students in grades 7-12. Historically the band has been known for its high quality musicianship, marching, and excellence. Under its most famous director, Mr. Keith Bloom, the band performed at the World's Fair, two Pennsylvania Gubernatorial Innaugurations, and the 1975 Dublin St. Patrick's Parade and Limerick International Band Festival (from which a copper plate is proudly displayed in our band room). Quality and pride continued through the 1990s during the tenure of Mr. Dennis Emert who created an ensemble that performed consistently at the highest of levels musically in Western Pennsylvania. During this time, Marion Center had many students attend local, regional, state, and national festivals at a higher rate than any school in the surrounding area. (Please consider contacting us with programs and names from this time period for our "Archives" Section!).
In the fall of 2020, Mr. Ryan Page took over as director of bands for the district. Under his direction, the band has embraced its history, and made new traditions of pride, excellence, and school spirit.
In the fall of 2019, Mr. Matthew Johnson was appointed as the new high school band director.
At the beginning of our 2016 season Mrs. Kassy Buente has taken over the reigns of our band. She brings a level of excitement and dedication to the band that is contagious!
From 2008 to 2016, the band has been under the direction of Mr. Jon Schaller. Under his direction, the band has committed itself to creative and unique half time shows and parades that combine the traditions of older "Big 10" style bands and more competitive "corps" style bands. The result has been an ensemble of high musicianship that is entertaining to listen to and watch.
